As Rundle Street starts to become synonymous with high-end retailers like Assembly Label, Viktoria and Woods, Saba, Derma and Aje, it’s no surprise Oroton is making its way to the East End.

The Australian label currently has concessions within South Australian shopping centres and a boutique in Burnside Village, but this will be a stand-alone bricks-and-mortar store in Adelaide’s CBD that will open in the coming months in place of Bauhaus.

The 40 or so Oroton boutiques across the country are all fitted out in its signature chic style, and we expect the Adelaide store will also boast the same intimate and timeless feel.

Oroton has seen major growth in the past few years. It was back on the fashion elite’s radar in 2019 when it launched its first ready-to-wear collection.

In 2022 overall sales revenue grew 22% on the previous year to $97 million, with online sales up 31%.

While it used to be well known for its luxurious leather goods, the label now delivers much more, including a lifestyle and clothing range. The brand is now synonymous with great craftsmanship, accessible luxury and a unique Australian sense of beauty.

Founded in Sydney in 1938 by Boyd Lane, Oroton started as an importer of luxury European textiles. From its very beginnings, Oroton believed in quality, working to source the best materials around the world.

Oroton soon transitioned into design, revolutionising Australian fashion by replacing the traditional materials used for evening bags with woven metallic mesh – a solely utilitarian material at the time. The collections of shimmering gold and silver evening bags were widely sought after.

Since 2018 Sophie Holt, Oroton’s creative director, has re-invigorated and reinterpreted Oroton’s rich heritage injecting a spirit of now, evolving the leather goods product offering, and launching full ready-to-wear collections.

Its Australian Fashion Week 2022 Resort ’23 Collection at Carriageworks got stellar reviews from fashion’s elite, including critics from Grazia and Vogue and is expected to continue that streak at upcoming runways in 2023 across the country.

We’re exited to see the pieces come to life within the new Rundle Street setting.
