A new Vinnies op shop is set to open in Enfield this year, marking another addition to Adelaide’s popular north-eastern op shop hub. The upcoming store will offer a massive 365 square metres of retail space and aims to be up and running within the next two to three months, depending on volunteer and staff recruitment.

Vinnies SA is calling on the community to support the new store by signing up to volunteer. The organisation is also seeking staff to help bring the new space to life.

“To get that space up and running we do need volunteers. That is a big part of our call-out at the moment,” a Vinnies SA Marketing Officer said.

While the Enfield store is new, the need for volunteers extends across the state. Volunteers play a key role in helping Vinnies provide essential services for South Australians in need.

The new shop will reflect a more modern look and feel that Vinnies has introduced in other recently opened locations, with clear branding, improved donation stations, and signage explaining where funds go. This transparency is helping shoppers and donors better understand the broader impact of their contributions.

“It’ll be leaning a little away from the classic op shop,” the spokesperson said. “It’s got all the familiar branding, but there’s going to be a whole new vibe to it.”

The new shop will reflect a more modern look and feel that Vinnies has introduced in other recently opened locations, like the Noarlunga store which recently celebrated its first birthday. Vinnies Enfield will feature a spacious layout, curated sections for clothing and homewares, and greater capacity for accepting donations.

The huge new location, 271 Main North Road, formerly home to 24/7 gym Plus Fitness, is also right next to an existing strip of thrift stores. You’ll be able to add to an already loaded op-shopping day with RSPCA, Save the Children, and Salvos stores right across the road.

Funds raised through Vinnies shops support a wide range of programs, including crisis accommodation for women, children and pets, men’s crisis housing, and refugee and asylum seeker settlement services. Donations also assist daily calls from people in need seeking emergency help with food, bills, and other essentials.

Vinnies is encouraging people to donate good-quality items during business hours only. Leaving donations out the front while the stores are closed means they are often damaged, and instead of getting a second life, these items frequently end up in landfill.

While the new Enfield op shop is expected to open in late 2025, those with capacity to volunteer are encouraged to get involved now, either at the new store or any of the existing locations.
