A new sanctuary of self-care and slow living is about to open its doors in Torrensville, as Adelaide’s newest wellness lounge touches down in the city. Inspired by traditional Japanese hot springs, Onsen blends clean design with mindful rituals to create a restorative escape from modern life. Opening Monday November 17th at 217 Henley Beach Road, this sleek new space will offer a curated mix of saunas, magnesium pools, and compression therapy designed to nourish both body and mind.
The concept comes from co-founders James Rosback and Joshua O’Grady, whose travels through Japan inspired them to bring the onsen experience home to Adelaide. Onsen is a Japanese term for hot springs and the bathing facilities or inns built around them. The duo were drawn to the calming rhythm of communal saunas and plunge baths overseas, where wellness is a shared ritual. With Onsen, they’ve created a space where people can step out of the daily grind and reconnect with themselves, their health, and each other.

“Some will come in before work, while others will roll through after a long day. Some will want to switch off in silence, while others might have a yarn in the barrel,” says James. The idea is to make wellbeing accessible, social, and intentional. This is a space that welcomes both quiet introspection and the post-work wind-down crowd.
Onsen’s aesthetic is serene and minimal. The space is centred by exposed concrete walls and floors, Venetian plaster, and soft, Japanese style design details. Timber saunas and smooth magnesium pools create a warm balance of textures, while natural light and clean lines make it feel instantly calming.
Guests can choose between traditional and modern sauna experiences. The traditional barrel sauna offers a communal setting for up to six people per session, with dry heat reaching up to 95 degrees for a deeply cleansing, detoxifying sweat. For something more private, there are full-spectrum infrared saunas available for solo or shared use, radiating gentle heat that eases tension, improves circulation, and leaves skin glowing.

For those who prefer water therapy, Onsen’s four magnesium pools invite guests to alternate between hot and cold plunges, a practice known to boost circulation, sharpen focus and reduce inflammation. Each 25-minute session is designed to awaken the senses, combining science-backed recovery with a meditative rhythm that leaves you refreshed and recharged.
Rounding out the experience are Normatec compression boots, a dynamic recovery treatment that uses gentle pressure to revive tired muscles and improve circulation. Perfect for athletes or anyone needing a little post-week reset, this 55-minute therapy is all about restoration and renewal.

Guests can drop in casually, or try membership and package options. The Base Set includes five 25-minute sessions for $110, while the Deep Reset offers ten sessions for $190. A special pre-sale offer adds extra sessions for those keen to get in early.
Onsen offers a space to pause and reconnect, and opens Monday, November 17th at 217 Henley Beach Road, Torrensville.
