Have you seen those enormous pizza slices that people absolutely devour in New York? Or the pasta that is served in a bread bowl so you can eat both your meal and the bowl? That’s exactly what Peppino’s Italian Street Food is bringing to Adelaide. Three brothers are opening the exciting new spot on Pirie Street next Friday September 27th, serving up all of the best Italian street foods in a convenient grab-and-go style.
“Because we’re in the CBD, we want people to be able to come in, eat their food, and go back to work,” Co-Owner Pat says.
So, what’s on the menu? Peppino’s will feature a selection of Italian street food classics, including arancini, cannolis, zeppole, pizza, and pasta – all made for quick and easy enjoyment.
One of the main attractions will be their New York-style pizza slices. Peppino’s will offer 25-inch pizza slices cut into big pieces. The menu includes three staple flavours – cheese, pepperoni, sausage and mushroom – along with a weekly special that will change.
“We saw a gap in the market for selling pizza by the slice in Adelaide. You see the grab-and-go New York style pizzas and you can’t get that here, you have to sit down at a restaurant to have it,” Pat says.
For arancini, customers can choose between mushroom and Bolognese. While the zeppoles will be available in a few flavours, including traditional sugar-coated and plain, as well as savoury anchovy and sweeter Nutella.
Peppino’s will also feature a unique cannoli station, where customers can choose from flavours such as vanilla, chocolate, pistachio, and ricotta. The station allows for customised combinations and toppings, so, you can say you want half pistachio and half chocolate, you can have it made right in front of you.
Another standout item is the pasta that’s going to be served in an edible bread bowl. The bread bowl (which absorbs all the delicious saucey goodness) will be available with three pasta options: alla vodka, Napolitana, and a third flavour which is still being decided.
In addition their wicked food, Peppino’s will offer a range of drinks including Sanpellegrino like you’re classic Chinotto. The venue will have a rustic Italian canteen vibe, complete with framed art for an old school feel, hanging chilies, and a signed photo of the Italian national soccer team.
While the vibe of Peppino’s is grab-and-go, they will still have seating for those who would like to sit and eat their food, with booths inside, and also outdoor seating.
Peppino’s is a family-run business by brothers Pat, Carmine, and Giuseppe, along with their business partner Tarik. The name “Peppino’s” honours their grandfathers: their mother’s father, Guiseppino, and their father’s father, Giuseppe. The cannoli cream recipe is in fact a special family secret from their mother’s father, who owned a well-known pastry shop on Grange Road for many years.
Giuseppe and Tarik are no strangers to the hospitality world. Wth their extensive experience managing Adelaide’s premium rooftop bar SORA and Leigh Street’s Plain Jane, the brothers and Tarik are excited to bring their dream to life.
“This is something that me and my brothers have thought about for years,” Pat says.
“We’re very close, we do everything together. It’s something we’ve thought about for a long time.
“We saw a gap in the market, and then we saw the opportunity on Pirie Street across from SORA, and we just took it.”
Peppino’s will officially open next Friday, September 27th. This is the Italian street food spot that Adelaide has been waiting for, and we can’t wait to try it.
