East Terrace is set to welcome a new northern-Italian style restaurant next month, where diners can indulge in traditional Venetian dishes and immerse themselves in the flavours of Italy.

Osteria Polpo will feature both an osteria, serving up restaurant style dishes, and a cicchetteria, offering a variety of small, snack-style bites perfect for enjoying alongside an aperitivo.

If you’re not familiar with northern-Italian cuisine, dishes like baccala, spaghetti with anchovy sauce, risotto with chicken liver, polenta, and sardines cured in vinegar are set to be featured on the menu.

“My parents are from the north of Italy, about half an hour away from Venice, so I was brought up with that food, and it’s always something I’ve wanted to do,” Owner of Osteria Polpo Paul Serafin says.

“If you go to the bars in Venice, you’ll find the cicchetti, which are very synonymous with Venice.”

For drinks, they’ll be sticking to classic Italian spritz, offering timeless favourites like a Negroni, and a variety of cocktail bases that will allow customers to tailor their drinks to their preferences.

Osteria Polpo is set to open mid to late May, nestled within a Heritage building in the CBD, and will be located on the corner of Carrington Street and East Terrace, overlooking Victoria Park.

“We’ve kept the State Heritage part the way it was, and we’ve also created a modern style side as well, within keeping those warm, traditional Venetian colours,” Paul Serafin says.

“We’ve maintained the really warm, timber feel throughout, synonymous with a lot of restaurants in Venice and Italy for that matter.

“It’s got a great little fireplace as well, you can sit around and have a drink.”

Paul has quite the history within Adelaide’s hospitality scene, operating both the Flying Fig in North Adelaide and the sandwich chain Stax in the CBD, giving him valuable experience and insights into different aspects of the food and beverage business.

Drawing inspiration from Paul’s heritage, Osteria Polpo emerges as an exciting addition to Adelaide’s culinary scene, bringing the flavours of northern-Italy to the CBD streets.
