El Mexicano Kitchen & Bar is once again spicing up Adelaide’s food scene with the opening of its third location. This time, on the bustling King William Road.
“People love it, and we had a look and there’s no authentic Mexican in the area so we thought, why not?” says owner Amit Maan.

Expect plenty of the signature house deals, including Taco Tuesday, Birra Wednesday and Thirsty Thursdays, but with some additions exclusive to the Hyde Park location.
“With every location, we want to create a unique experience that goes beyond just serving food,” explains Amit.
“We have a really good bar here and, from what I observed, Hyde Park people love their wine, so we are going to tie that in with our menu. And for the first two weeks, we’ll have $14 margaritas made with premium tequila and $6 tacos.”
The food menu stays true to El Mexicano’s signature style, offering a carefully curated selection of delicious and authentic Mexican dishes. From freshly made salsas to flavour-packed tacos, each dish will be crafted using high-quality ingredients, and prepared in-house daily to ensure an authentic taste.
“We have paella, pescadillas, gorditas, chimichanga and enchiladas… I’d probably go with the paella and chimichanga,” admits Amit.
El Mexicano was born from a 10-year hospitality journey that took Amit through Italian, Maltese and Greek cuisines. But when he and his partner came to Adelaide and couldn’t find an authentic Mexican restaurant, the business venture began.
“When I changed to cooking Mexican, I got to know that it is really good and easy to cook food. Then, when we moved to Adelaide, we couldn’t find anything but tacos and nachos, so I saw the opportunity.”
El Mexicano expanded to Jetty Road in Glenelg and now Hyde Park, but the Mexican wave doesn’t stop there. The couple plan to hit the coast again next with a Semaphore location on the horizon – a dream Amit deems impossible without the ongoing support of customers.
“I just want to thank everyone for being so supportive. It’s a dream for us to open a third store within two and a half years and we have big dreams for Semaphore and then Victoria too.”

Hyde Park will be sure to create some noise and add a lively flare to the popular King William Road strip, complete with sombreros and a friendly visit from the restaurant mascot, ‘Nacho Libre.’ If you choose the right night, there will even be a mariachi band.
“We play loud music, we shake the maracas and rattle. We always sing happy birthday with ‘Nacho Libre’, so it’s unique.”
For a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine, festive vibes, and an experience no short of colour, be sure to check out El Mexicano’s newest location due to open mid-April. Stay tuned for the official opening date and “¡Nos vemos en la fiesta!” (See you at the party!)
