Leigh Street’s Power Up Bar gearing up for a complete makeover

Power Up Bar on Leigh Street is gearing up for a complete transformation with a brand-new theme to open on May 3.

The popular retro-game arcade haven on Leigh Street, Power Up Bar, is gearing up for a complete transformation. Mark your calendars for May 3 when the brand-new Secret Chamber bar will open in its place, promising a fresh experience for all.

Power Up Bar had initially intended to be open for two years, but as its third year approaches, the owners feel now is the right time for a total revamp.

“Power Up Bar picked up pretty well early because it was something new, and because of the success, and all of the support from the customers, we left it open and kept the theme for a lot longer than we anticipated,” Owner of Power Up Bar Than Rattanakosit says.

“There wasn’t really a small bar dedicated to arcade games, so our idea was to bring that to Leigh Street and just kind of see how it goes.”

Power Up Bar will sadly see its end this weekend, with its final day open being Saturday April 27, before the owners embark on a week-long renovation project to transform the space.

The new theme, Secret Chamber, is poised to adopt a more sophisticated tone with a cosy, antique style in line with Leigh Street’s vibe.

The owners are hoping to attract a more mature crowd by offering a diverse selection of drinks that appeal to everyone, including both classic and fancy cocktails, while taking favourites from its sister bar, The Sorcerer’s Bar.

“It’s a pretty good street for people to have knock off drinks, so it’s going to be catered to a more mature crowd. There will still be that theme that people love, but it will also be a place where anyone can come,” Than Rattanakosit says.

What will distinguish Secret Chamber from the other establishments on Leigh Street are its signature smoking cocktails; a crowd favourite that will give the bar a competitive edge in the local market.

“We’ll have the smoking cocktails that people love from The Sorcerer’s Bar, but we’ll also have drinks like wine and beer, everything that people come to Leigh Street for,” Than says.

The owners are optimistic Secret Chamber will bring something exciting and fresh to the space. With its promise of innovative cocktails, the venue aims to cater to both cocktail enthusiasts and Adelaide’s vibrant nightlife crowd. Keep an eye out for more updates as opening day approaches!
