COMING SOON: Rosie’s Pizzeria to bring authentic Neapolitan offerings to Adelaide’s east

Pizza fans of Adelaide unite! Rosie’s Pizzeria is coming to the eastern suburbs very soon, bringing a feast of authentic Italian flavours.

You read that right, pizza enthusiasts: there’s a new joint opening up in Adelaide’s east. The freshest face in Adelaide’s thriving pizza marketplace is Rosie’s Pizzeria, expected to open in Kensington Gardens in mid to late January.

Located in the Erindale Shopping Centre on Kensington Road, Rosie’s Pizzeria is moving into the former home of Sunny Bakery, which closed in September 2020.

Behind the venture is José, a 38-year-old engineer turned pizza maker, whose journey from Argentinian pizzerias to the food scene of Adelaide has been anything but typical.

“I moved to Australia about two and a half years ago. During COVID, I started making pizzas at home, and that’s when I decided to pursue it more seriously.”

José’s interest quickly developed into a passion, and he began studying pizza making working towards building his own business. He travelled to Italy to learn from the pros and built the foundation for his own business during his stints at multiple pizza spots in Adelaide.

After honing his skills in Adelaide, José’s menu features a mix of traditional and creative recipes that appeal to local preferences while staying true to his roots. The pizzeria offers familiar Neapolitan favourites like pepperoni and capricciosa as well as more adventurous choices like the quattro formaggi and rotating monthly specials.

While the pizzeria specialises in Neapolitan-style pizza, which features a soft, chewy crust and fresh toppings, Rosie’s will also offer a crispy, thin crust Australian-style option that is sure to appeal to local tastes.

Beyond pizza, Rosie’s Pizzeria plans to offers a range of starters, such as traditional neapolitan arancini, as well as delicious desserts like tiramisu, Nutella pizza, and dulce de leche. They’ve also secured a liquor license and are planning to serve up a selection of imported beers, like Italian Peroni and Asahi from Japan.

José has been building Rosie’s Pizzeria with his business partner Nicholas, a 23-year-old local who, despite his young age, has become an invaluable member of the team. The duo are set on having Rosie’s primarily act as a takeaway spot with limited indoor seating, but they have their sights set on expanding into catering in the near future.

The team has planned a soft opening later this month, which will likely include tastings and a special offer of $10 pizzas. The official opening will follow shortly after. José says he’s been hearing a lot of buzz in the local food hotspots and is excited to offer authentic Neapolitan pizza to the hungry foodies of Adelaide.

Though the pizzeria is in its early days, José and Nicholas have already been offered the opportunity to open a second location in another suburb close to the Adelaide CBD. Although this prospect is exciting, for now they remain focused on building a strong foundation and customer base around their first location.

Construction is currently nearing completion as the restaurant nears its opening date. With the recent installation of an enormous gold-plated wood oven, we can see Rosie’s Pizzeria becoming a popular hotspot in the area.

Keep an eye on their social media for updates on their opening schedule and special offers.
