A new café is landing in the Adelaide Hills, with Craft Coffee Cafe set to open a fresh location on Walker Street in Mount Barker.
Although the South Australian owned cafe is new to the town, it’s not new to the state, with the chain having four other locations around Adelaide. Known for its laid-back and community-first vibe, the growing café group has quietly built a following across multiple suburban locations, serving up specialty coffee and cafe comfort food.
Now, it looks like Mount Barker is next. The new venue is landing on one of Mt Barker’s busiest hospo strips and is set to open this May.
Craft Coffee Cafe will bring the same concepts that have worked across its existing stores, with ethically sourced coffee, all-day dining and a focus on creating a welcoming space for locals.
Craft Coffee Cafe owner Kunal Shah said the move to Mount Barker was inspired by his love of the area, as the location is one of his favourite destinations.
“I normally go and visit four or five times a year,” he said. “It’s a nice growing town, and it’s got lots of rolling hills, all the beauty.”
“Kraft Coffee Cafe has been running for the last six years in South Australia, around Adelaide as well.
“It’s a South Australian brand, and we created it back in 2020.”
The first cafe was at Mile End, and from there they expanded to Gilles Plains and Salisbury just months after the first venue opened.
For the last four years Craft Coffee Cafe Mile End have been using a robot server to help deliver food and drink to customers’ tables.
“I think we’ll be the first cafe in Mount Barker introducing a robot as well from a service point of view.”

On the menu, that typically means classic crowd-pleasers done well, like the BLTA Turkish Sub, loaded fries and hand-cut sweet potato chips, sitting alongside café staples such as smashed avocado on sourdough and a rich, indulgent eggs benedict.
For something on the lunch menu, there’s the Angus beef burger with chips, salt and pepper squid, or for something sweeter, a stack of crepes with lemon, sugar, and maple syrup.
Craft Coffee Cafe often partners with local producers to bring the best ingredients South Australia has to offer, from Mountain Fresh Juice to the creamy indulgence of Golden North Ice Cream.
The move into Mount Barker places Craft Coffee Cafe in the heart of one of the state’s fastest-growing regions. Walker Street in particular is a go-to strip for locals chasing their morning coffee or a cheeky takeaway find on the weekend.
Craft Coffee Cafe is aiming to be open from 7am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, and Sunday 9am to 5pm.
For Mount Barker coffee lovers looking for a new local spot, this could be it.
