COMING SOON: Unique North Adelaide sandwich shop opening with Thai-fusion flavours and local pastries

A local hospitality expert is returning to the industry with a new sandwich shop in North Adelaide, set to open this week!

Thai-inspired delicatessen, SATHU are opening their doors with a soft launch this week, bringing quirky but tasty sandwiches, pastries and coffee to North Adelaide.

Brought to us by the original owners of the beloved UR Caffee on Melbourne St, SATHU is sure to be a new lunchtime staple. Owner, Kate Pattarapongkasame, is a hospitality veteran making her return to the industry, planning to combine the vibrancy and passion of delis in Thailand, Italy and Japan to bring a distinctive sandwich and coffee spot that still celebrates local.

“I used to own a cafe on Melbourne St and was always eying off this place. My friends and family were always asking when I was going to go back into the hospitality industry, so when I saw that it was available I jumped at the opportunity,” shares Kate.

“It’s a dream to be opening the shop. I missed having my routine, getting a coffee in the morning, talking with customers, and making stuff in-house. Sharing our food with everyone, that’s what I’m most excited for.”

On the menu will be many a classic, reinvigorated by the flavours of Kate’s travels. Sando’s served on Schiacciata, plus coffee provided by local roaster D’Angelo and pastries from Prove Patisserie on Magil Rd.

During the soft opening, the complete menu won’t be available, but within a week or so, the full menu and the highly anticipated matcha soft serve will all be ready to go. Fortunately, sandos, coffees and pastries will hold us over in the meantime.

Kate shares that the Sandos on Schiacciata, a type of Italian flatbread, are a must-try.

“My favourite is the Chicken Satay Schiacciata. It’s a different offering to everyone else. We will have your classic original cold cuts and mozzarella, but have something a bit special as well.”

SATHU are clearly doing it a little bit differently, and ought to join the long list of amazing sandwich shops and cafes in Adelaide.

The name, SATHU’s reinforces the link between their Thai roots while calling South Australia home. The name is a fusion of both backgrounds, meaning SA TH(ai) Unite.

They will be open from this Thursday, the 28th of August!
