When you think of a summer European getaway, it’s hard not to imagine yourself devouring a traditional wood-fired pizza by the stunning coastline.
And now, thanks to Cono Gorgone, owner of Sicily Pizzeria e Bar and Sicily Autostrada, we can do just that right here in South Australia.
Set to open in February/March 2020, Sicily Mare Pizzeria is a continuation of Sicily’s other pizzerias, bringing the ‘vera’ pizza of Italy to the shores of Aldinga’s coastline.
“After many summer holidays [in Aldinga], spanning over 10-15 years, I’ve always watched the area grow and thought it was time for the locals to have more choices … and also for myself to enjoy my own food when I’m there,” says Cono.
“I also think Aldinga is one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia and is the closest reminder to Italian, namely Sicilian beaches.”
Situated right on the esplanade, Sicily Mare will offer a relaxed, dine-in vibe, decked out with coastal colours of sky blue, orange and white.
As for the food, the new pizza joint will offer the same selections as their CBD location, providing diners with authentic Italian pizza as well as a range of antipasti, salads and desserts.
The seaside pizzeria will also pay homage to the local produce that’s right on their doorstep, dishing up seafood options including a seafood basket and a Frutti di Mare pizza.
Either take in the picturesque views of both Aldinga and Port Willunga beach, or enjoy the Italian cuisine in the comfort of your own home with the delivery service covering the Aldinga, Port Willunga and McLaren Vale areas through Menulog and Uber Eats.
“I’m sure that with our delivery as well, we will be accommodating a lot more, new to be happy locals with pizza and traditional Italian cuisine,” Cono explains.
Sicily Mare Pizzeria is set to open in February/March 2020 at 106-107 Esplanade, Aldinga.
