Dining at Hyde Park could soon take you straight to the bustling streets of Tokyo with a sizzling new addition about to land – Bird Yakitori. Nestled in the heart of the busy King William Road strip, this soon-to-open eatery looks to be a specialist in its namesake: yakitori.
Yakitori, which translates to “grilled chicken,” is a traditional Japanese style of cooking that involves skewering marinated pieces of meat, seafood and vegetables over a high-heat hibachi grill.
Originating in Tokyo during the Meiji period in the 19th century, Yakitori has fast become a foodie favourite, offering so much more than a simple skewer.

Think, proteins coated in a sweet, soy-based glaze known as tare, seasoned to perfection and served sizzling hot.
From thigh and breast to skin, liver and even cartilage, yakitori spares no piece. And, if meat doesn’t stir the senses, the hibachi grill infuses a smoky, umami-rich flavour to all it envelopes… mushrooms, soy bean, peppers, and everything in between.
Though the space is yet to be revealed – if the yakitori bars found in the streets of Tokyo are anything to go by – expect a dimly lit, hole-in-the-wall setting, and bar seating over an open kitchen, so you can watch the chef slicing, dicing and grilling. All with a sake in hand, perhaps.

With a soon-to-be new kid on the block serving smoky skewers and umami-packed plates, it has never been a better time to venture to King William Road. More details coming for the opening date, so stay tuned.
