Port Adelaide is about to welcome a sleek new addition to its fast-growing waterfront, with Quest Apartment Hotels set to open its second property in the area, just across the road from its first.

The expansion comes on the back of a surge in bookings and a growing demand for long-stay accommodation, largely driven by the area’s booming defence industry.

“What we’re doing is expanding the business due to more people in the area, particularly around the defence projects happening in Port Adelaide,” says Daniel O’Hare, Business Development manager and owner of the Port Adelaide and Mawson Lakes locations.

“That’s the main reason, but the new building itself is also quite grand.”

The new property will include 88 rooms, an even split between studio executive apartments and one-bedroom executive apartments.

“All rooms in the new building have balconies, whereas only the one and two-bedroom apartments in the existing property had them. That change came directly from client feedback, people really wanted that outdoor space,” says Daniel.

Port Adelaide’s defence sector is the driving force behind the expansion, with a steady flow of contractors and long-stay international guests fuelling the demand.

“We’ve been operating in Port Adelaide for some time, and the demand is being driven by the naval shipbuilding projects down in Osborne,” he says.

“It started with the offshore patrol vessels, then the Hunter-class frigate project, and now they’re ramping up for the AUKUS nuclear submarine project. With all that activity, there’s been a huge increase in demand for accommodation, especially for international guests staying long-term.”

The new build will maintain Quest’s signature approach to extended-stay accommodation, with an emphasis on liveability and self-sustained rooms as a “home-away-from-home.”

“They’re ideal for extended stays. We have guests stay anywhere from one night to twelve months,” adds Daniel.

The apartment rooms each come with a full-sized kitchen with all the essentials, laundry facilities, and a spacious lounge with a TV that supports casting and has on-demand movies.

The studio apartments, while more compact, still feature a kitchenette, bathroom, and balcony, and guests also have access to a communal laundry on the ground floor and on-site gym facilities.

All the rooms offer a beautiful vantage point. Half overlook the Port River and the others face the city skyline and the picturesque Adelaide Hills.

Quest’s properties famously forgo in-house restaurants, but the Port Adelaide location instead offers partnerships with local pubs and eateries. You can eat locally and charge your meal back to your room bill, particularly convenient for corporate guests staying for work.

But it’s not just business guests that the hotel will attract.

The spot is in the heart of Port Adelaide, just 15km north-west of the CBD, and within close reach of local landmarks like the South Australian Maritime Museum, National Railway Museum, and South Australian Aviation Museum.

Enjoy a staycation weekend and wander the character-laden streets of the Port, admire the heritage architecture, and explore the many cafes, breweries and galleries tucked away in the area. Or, time your stay to line up with the iconic monthly Markets at the Mill.

The riverside spot also gives the hotel a uniquely maritime feel, and you might even be able to spot a dolphin from the balcony!

The hotel joins a swathe of new businesses and revitalisation projects breathing life into the Port Adelaide district. Other key projects include the redevelopment of the Customs House precinct, upgrades to Joyce Snadden Reserve and Old Port Canal Reserve, and the McLaren Parade Streetscape upgrade.

The development is backed by One SMG Property, with Mossop Construction and John Byelveld Architects behind the building and design.
