The Ovingham Hotel in the metropolitan outskirts is just weeks away from the grand opening of its whisky bar and function area. The dimly lit and intimate setting offers a selection of local and international whiskies and invites people to indulge in something more tailored than your average pint.
“It’s a cozy spot where you can sit by the fireplace and enjoy a whisky,” says Venue Manager Lauren Pullan.
“We have standing tables where you can sit with friends or an intimate couch area in the corner for something more private.”

Whether you’re a connoisseur or just after a quick nip to start your night, there will be a specially curated selection of local and international varieties. And, if whisky doesn’t take your fancy, Lauren promises plenty of alternatives for you to enjoy.
“We’ll have Irish and Scottish styles, plus a few Japanese options as well,” says Lauren.
“There will also be cold beer for the boys sitting down after a cold day or a cocktail for the girls coming in for a chat,” she says.
However, the uniqueness of the area is its ability to feel intimate and cosy while offering the capacity to host bigger groups. According to Lauren, the interiors are made to feel like a speakeasy bar – a term used to describe nefarious liquor shops from the 1880s and Prohibition era, but modernly used for retro, dimly-lit venues.
“I describe the vibe of the place like a speakeasy,” says Lauren.
“We wanted to keep some of the wooden features to pay tribute to the pub’s history while modernising the areas to create a warm atmosphere with a fresh look,” says Area Manager Regan Curyer.
Walk through and you get a sense of the speakeasy-esque. The exposed blue stone and greenery that carry throughout create a moody, tropical oasis right in the heart of the bustling pub. Make your way downstairs and you’re met with two function areas, the ‘nook’ and the ‘cranny,’ and a floor-to-ceiling waterfall adding ambience to the space.
Versatility is a key feature of the design. Dining solo, in a group of 10, or a party of 60, it has you covered.
“The Ovingham Hotel has a unique skill of being able to cater and adapt to a multitude of functions. The whisky bar will be a great space for cocktail events, and the nook and cranny offers privacy from other patrons.”

Just a stone’s throw away from Adelaide CBD and Plant 4 Bowden, this sultry setting is the ideal location for your next event or the perfect quick escape from the chaos of pub happy hour.
The area will be available to book for private functions on select days through the website or by phone. Stay tuned for the official opening date!
