Spinifex Wines, a family owned and operated winery located in the middle of the Barossa, will welcome a brand new cellar door next month, immersing customers amongst their vineyard.

After completing works on their winery in 2023, husband and wife Peter Schell and Magali Gely had always envisioned having a cellar door on site, and from February 1 it will be a reality.

“Our cellar door will offer a more focused Spinifex experience, we were looking for a way to connect with our customers on a one on one basis,” Magali said.

“The cellar door will be in the middle of vineyards, we make the wines down the back so when people come to try our wines at our cellar door, they will be completely immersed in the vineyard itself.”

The lowkey cellar door will start small to begin with, allowing both Peter, Magali and their two boys Noah and Louie find their feet as the welcome customers through.

“We will have charcuterie boards available for those who choose to experience their flight out on the veranda amongst the vines, I think it’s really important for people to be able to nibble on something while they experience our wines.

“It’s so exciting but also very scary.”

As founding members of the Artisans of Barossa, a dedicated cellar door and restaurant showcasing over 100 selections artisans wines, Magali reassured their presence will still be felt at the award winning site.

“We will still have an attachment to the artisans but it was important for us to offer two different experiences across the two venues,” she said.

“We will have more of our estate grown fruit at the cellar door while they will have a bit more of the grower fruit available at the Artisans.”

Operating since 2001, Spinifex Wines focus is on making regional wines from the traditional Mediterranean grape varieties.

Both Peter and Magali spent 4 vintages making wine in France, mainly in the south where Magali’s family were vignerons for generations near Montpellier.

Since 2021, Spinifex have taken home the Rose of the year twice at the Luxe Rose at the Halliday Wine Companion Awards. This particular award acknowledges a standout winery producing the best rosé varietal amongst its quality competition, considering its quality, taste, flavour, and production.

Sounding like all of this is up your alley? Be sure to either head out for a personalised tasting next month or flag it in your must visits when heading to the Barossa.
