Expected to open late September 2024 is the reimagined cellar door for Vinteloper Wines in Lobethal. After the tragic Adelaide hill fires and three long-awaited years, the team have re-developed the ruins of their land and have rebuilt their historical farmhouse.
In December 2019, founder and head winemaker at Vinteloper, David Bowley, lost his entire 30-hectare property during the Cuddle Creek Bushfire, where hectares of vineyards, wine-making infrastructure and 1920 farmhouse were burnt, leaving nothing for Bowley and the team.
From this tragedy, Bowley adopted the philosophy of regenerative agriculture, which focuses on conservation and a rehabilitation approach to farming and land management. On the Vinteloper website, Bowley states: ‘It’s from the destruction we see incredible opportunity. The chance to rebuild is the chance to do it smarter and better with the benefit of experience.’
Bowley embraced all that he lost and used it as a chance to improve his methods and solidify his ethos as a sustainable brand. Since the fires, the team have dedicated themselves to a major Biodiverse Replanting Project, with the objective to replant and reintroduce rare native flora, planting over 2000 plants.
This is not just a cellar door, it represents the determination of bushfire-effected businesses, homes, and people who have endured the hardship and tragedy.

We are evolving and elevating our brand and story through the physical touchpoint of a brand home.”
The team say on the Vinteloper’s Instagram: “Not just a Cellar Door. This will be a physical touchpoint. A story of overcoming adversity. A brand new home.”
From September 26th this year, tastings will be available at the rebuilt farmhouse Thursday to Monday 11am to 5pm. With groups of 7 and under not needing to book in advance, the new place will be another incredible spot to visit in the Adelaide Hills.
