The Adelaide Central Market will resume its regular trading hours on Tuesday September 3rd after having to temporarily close on Saturday August 31st because of a small fire. The blaze that occurred in Level 1 of the car park was quickly contained by fire crews, but caused extensive smoke throughout the market complex, putting an end to trading for the day. Thanks to the swift response from emergency services, the fire was controlled and no structural damage was reported.
The market’s closure on Saturday meant that traders missed out on an important day of sales, particularly on what would have been a busy day leading into Father’s Day on Sunday September 1st. Given that many were prepared to offer a range of products for the occasion, from gins and wines, to gourmet jerky, spice rubs, sustainable gifts, and even photography supplies, it’s a significant loss.
As the market prepares to reopen on Tuesday at 7am, the community is encouraged to visit and show support for the over 70 traders who were affected by the unexpected closure. With regular trading hours resuming until 5:30pm, and the market operating as usual throughout the week, customers will have ample opportunity to show their support and help the traders recover.
If you can’t make it on Tuesday, consider stopping by later in the week to support these local traders. You could still buy a Father’s Day gift for the special father figure in your life as an added thank you, or just enjoy exploring the wonderful range of stalls throughout.
