Carols by Candlelight will return to Elder Park for the first time since COVID-19, backed by $1 million in funding from the State Government.
Hosted by Rosanna Mangiarelli, Amelia Mulcahy and Will Goodings from 7 News Adelaide, solo performers for this year’s evening carol sing-along (8.00pm to 10.30pm) are Samantha Jade, Amber Lawrence, Lucy Durack, Taylor Henderson, Irish tenor Tommy Fleming, The Voice 2022 grand finalist Thndo and now Conrad Sewell.
Best known for his song “Start Again” which won Song of the Year at the ARIA Music Awards of 2015, Sewell was also nominated in two other categories: Breakthrough Artist and Best Pop Release. His debut studio album Life was released in May 2019 and will be releasing his sophomore album “Precious” in early 2023.
The beloved Christmas tradition was held virtually over the past two years during the pandemic, instead of the traditional Elder Park concert which attracts more than 25,000 people and raises much-needed funds for charity.
St John Ambulance is taking over hosting the event after Novita hosted for the past six years. SeaLink will be the naming rights sponsor.
Now in its 78th year, the 2022 SeaLink Carols by Candlelight will be held on Sunday, December 11. The event starts at 2pm with Santa, giveaways, kids carnival and entertainment for the whole family, with the main concert commencing at 8.15pm.
Mark Groote, CEO St John Ambulance Australia SA Inc said that “As the new custodians of Carols, we are so thankful to the Government of South Australia and SeaLink for their continued support of this iconic, free community event.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Elder Park on Sunday 11th December 2022 to celebrate Christmas.
“Join us for a wonderful day in the parklands filled with entertainment, carolling and spectacular fireworks, all proudly in support of St John Ambulance and our life saving work within the South Australian community each and every day of the year,” Groote said.
Clint Feuerhedt, Group CEO Kelsian Group (representing SeaLink, Naming Rights Sponsor) said “We are pleased to confirm our commitment as the naming sponsor of the 2022 SeaLink Carols by Candlelight, for the fourth consecutive year.
“It is always a much loved event, which we look forward to enjoying in person this year, and celebrating Christmas with our community, friends and family,” Feurerhedt said.
Peter Malinauskas said “This is yet another welcome sign that life is returning to normal after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Christmas just hasn’t been the same without the Christmas Pageant through the streets of Adelaide and Carols by Candlelight in Elder Park.
“It’s great news for South Australians, young and old, that both are back this year. I hope for families across the state this means we can reprise the joyful traditions of Christmas,” Malinauskas said.
The State Government is delivering funding certainty for the event, after two pandemic-affected years, with $250,000 in funding per year for the next four years.
Sealink Carols by Candlelight will be broadcast on 7TWO Adelaide at 7.30pm on Monday 12 December, and nationally on Channel 7 on Sunday 25 December, while streaming on 7Plus will be available from Monday 12 December for 30 days.
