The new queen of dinner parties is here to teach us how to replicate the supper club experience at home. Stephanie Feher, who has more than 80,000 followers on Instagram, has just blessed the world with Lucky Dragon Supper Club, and all dinner party enthusiasts should be taking note.

Filled with recipes that will make you feel like you’re dining at Rosemont Hall or Arkhé, Lucky Dragon Supper Club is a one-of-a-kind tome that serves up Asian-inspired fusion dishes with an innovative twist, making them perfect for impressing a crowd. While some of the dishes sound beyond the capabilities of beginner or even intermediate cooks, Feher breaks each recipe down into simple steps so nothing feels overwhelming. For example, in the recipe for Beef Chow Fun (page 78), each step of the recipe is categorised into broader sections: First you marinate the beef, then make the sauce, then prepare the noodles, then stir-fry them, and then serve. Next to the section of the recipe you’re in, Feher also details which parts can be made ahead of time, and which should be done immediately before serving. Good planning is the key to stress-free entertaining, and this book is always one step ahead.

Great food photography accompanies the vast catalogue of recipes, which include Bites and Cocktails, Smaller Plates, Bigger Plates, Salads and Sides, Something Sweet, and Foundations. The book starts off with a deep dive into the concept of the soul behind entertaining, followed by a quick guide on how to use it, Feher’s best tips to successfully create the right supper club vibe, and a rundown of the cooking techniques and staple ingredients you’ll need.

My only gripe is that there were so many good recipes, it took me way too long to decide what to make. Among those that are on my to-do list are Fried Bocconcini with Strange Flavour Sauce (page 54), Stunning Pearl Meatballs (page 36), Crispy.com Spuds (page 148), and Gochujang Orecchiette (page 88).

Beef chow fun (page 78)

What a delicious stir fry! Though more expensive, buying a cut of meat like sirloin and carving it up yourself rather than buying pre-cut steak makes all the difference to the taste. This was quick and easy to put together, and you can even add in extra veg that you have lying around. There are a few different stages in the process, but Feher makes it simple by breaking everything down into digestible steps.

Smashed Cucumber salad (page 150)

Simple but effective, this cucumber salad will become a go-to in the summer rotation. I was a bit hesitant about raw garlic in something with so few ingredients, but all the flavours worked together beautifully. The sesame oil in particular gave this a unique taste, setting it apart from your average salad.

Passionfruit tres leches cake (page 166)

We love a cake that looks impressive, even if it was easy to make. This passionfruit cake is perfect for summer: sweet, fruity, and served chilled. Just apply common sense while drenching the cake in the milk combination and use a cooling rack under the cake so the excess milk can filter away, otherwise you’ll have a mess on the plate. Whether for a birthday cake or Christmas dessert, it’s a winner.
