The Coriole Music Festival is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary with an exceptional lineup of performances scheduled for the 17th and 18th of May, 2025 at the Coriole Vineyards in McLaren Vale. This event marks the final festival curated by Simon Cobcroft, the Artistic Director, making it one not to be missed.
Simon Cobcroft, who has worked both in solo and orchestral music, will conclude his tenure with a program that promises to blend international talents with festival favourites. The festival will explore themes around musical crossroads which will be expressed through three concerts. These include works by Maurice Ravel, Richard Strauss, Felix Mendelssohn, Bela Bartok, and Johannes Brahms along with the Australian premiere of three Piano Études by composer Unsuk Chin.
One of the festival’s highlights includes the world premiere of a Sonata for Cello and Piano, crafted by esteemed Australian composer Richard Mills, which will see Cobcroft himself perform alongside pianist Anna Goldsworthy.
An exciting feature of the 2025 festival is the debut of several internationally acclaimed artists. British-Malaysian piano virtuoso, Mei Yi Foo, will make her Australian debut, alongside British-Australian flautist Joshua Batty, Australian mezzo-soprano Victoria Lambourn, and Australian clarinettist Philip Arkinstall. The festival will also welcome back esteemed performers such as Australian soprano Lorina Gore, violist Justin Julian, violinist Elizabeth Layton, the Lyrebird Piano Trio, and pianist Anna Goldsworthy.
“I am delighted to present a gathering of internationally lauded musicians, some making their Coriole Music Festival debut, and other familiar faces returning. The music programmed this year offers a wildly contrasting collection of masterworks,” shared Simon.
Moreover, the festival will not only celebrate music but also the region’s exquisite food and wine, providing a full cultural experience at the scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
“25 years of the Coriole Music Festival is a great milestone and an opportunity to celebrate the community that the festival has proudly built since its origins,” shared Mark Lloyd, co-founder of the Coriole Music Festival and Board member of the McLaren Vale Music Festival.
