Pizza lovers and Seinfield fans of Adelaide unite! In an astonishing crossover we couldn’t possibly see coming, a team of hospitality virtuosos and Seinfield fans are opening up a new pizza bar in the heart of Adelaide.
To be located on the ground floor of Hindley Street Music Hall, Cosmo’s Pizza is bringing the delicious flavours of New York style pizza to the hungry mouths of Adelaide’s foodies and late-night wanderers. With renovations currently underway on their new space, acquired with support from Renew Adelaide, the team are planning to officially open their doors in April.
Cosmo’s Pizza is the joint venture of hospo experts and budding entrepreneurs Josh O’Shaughnessy (Josh O) and Josh Bartolo (Josh B), who both bring extensive hospitality experience to their venture. Josh O is the brain behind Taco Cartel, a food truck and events business who serve up Mexican offerings at major Adelaide events like the Fringe, WOMAD, and Tour Down Under.
His business partner, Josh B, has a history of running pubs and bars throughout Australia, Europe, the UK, and Canada.
The pair connected through the hospitality industry a couple of years ago and bonded over shared love of hospitality and Seinfeld.
Working with Renew Adelaide, the team were approved to start work on their concept on the ground floor of Hindley Street Music Hall. They got the keys two weeks ago and are currently renovating the space, which will feature a large pizza oven. Presently, they’re hoping to open their doors in April when Adelaide’s bustling Mad March season has drawn to a close.
So, what’s on the menu? Well, Josh and Josh will be serving up a bunch goodies, including their hallmark New York style pizza slices, including classics like pepperoni, Italian sausage, and Margherita. There will also be Seinfield-inspired calzone and “big salad”, as well as local craft beers on tap and in the fridge.
They’re also brainstorming some names for Seinfield-themed cocktails, and will be offering a selection of mainly South Australian wines.
“We want to offer a range of experiences at Cosmo’s Pizza. Anything from a casual night out to a big celebration. We’ll also have a grab and go window for anyone in a rush or people waiting outside for a show.”
“Groups can get large pizzas to share and make a big night out of it. Or just come along for the vibe
As well as their drink selection, the team will also be sourcing the majority of their ingredients from South Australian providers. They’re currently working with a local butcher in the McLaren Vale to devise their own recipes for unique, New York style pepperoni and Italian sausage.
“We’re making our own sauce and pizza dough too, and anything we’re not making ourselves will be sourced from local suppliers.”
Josh O has a background in events and music festivals, so his experience aligns well with the space at Hindley Street Music Hall. He’s worked with Renew Adelaide in the past, so he appreciates how the team offers “opportunities to experiment with new concepts without needing full commitment”.
“The Renew team are here to support new concepts in the city, and my experience so far has been really good. They’ve given us everything we need to give this a go.”
Once Cosmo’s Pizza is officially open, they plan to adorn the walls with Seinfield artwork and memorabilia, which could potentially include a Frogger arcade machine – “a nod to the original show”.
But don’t worry, you can certainly still enjoy Cosmo’s Pizza Bar if, like myself, you’ve never watched Seinfield.
“Someone who’s never watched Seinfield can still walk in and feel the New York vibe without needing to know it’s a Seinfield vibe, as opposed to an overtly Seinfield theme”, says Josh.
Cosmo’s Pizza is set to become a must-visit spot in Adelaide, offering a unique blend of New York-style pizza and a fun Seinfeld-inspired atmosphere. With a focus on high-quality, locally sourced ingredients and a welcoming vibe, the new pizza bar promises to be the perfect destination for food lovers, music goers, and of course, Seinfield fans.
