Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood is urging local residents to roll up their sleeves and join him on Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday March 6th.
Adelaide City Council is holding a public cleanup at Ellis Park / Tambawodli on West Terrace, next to Adelaide High School.
Marking the event’s 21st anniversary, Stephen is encouraging the community to come down and lend a hand in cleaning up our natural environment.
“Clean Up Australia Day not only raises awareness about litter reduction and recycling but builds community pride. It’s the perfect opportunity for everyone to come together and do our bit for our local parks and waterways,” Stephen said.
Clean Up Australia Chairman Ian Kiernan AO is urging everyone to do their bit towards protecting local ecosystems while improving the appeal of their area.
“Australians generally do the right thing, but with each one of us producing two tonnes of rubbish every year there is still too much waste ending up in our natural environment,” Mr Kiernan said.
Adelaide City Council has proudly supported the event since 2004 and this year hopes to have more than 100 participants.
Volunteers should meet next to Adelaide High School along West Terrace at 9.00am. There will be a certificate presentation and free BBQ lunch afterward.
Gloves, water and sunscreen will be provided but participants will be required to wear closed toe shoes. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Groups, including schools and community organisations are asked to pre-register on the website or by calling Council Clean Up Australia Day project manager Rebecca Powell on (08)8203 7413. Individuals are also asked to pre-register on the website or can simply turn up on the day.
