COVID-19: Deliveroo Announces Contact-Free Delivery Service

As of today, Deliveroo customers and riders will be able to choose the contact-free delivery option.

Deliveroo has introduced a feature to enable customers and riders to select contact-free delivery when placing an order.

Riders will be notified of this selection, and will follow a process to ensure there is no contact made with the food during the delivery.

“The safety of our riders and customers is our top priority. That is why we are launching a new, contact-free delivery service,” says a Deliveroo spokesperson.

“Customers and riders can request in the app that food is left safely on the doorstep. We remain in daily contact with local health officials to make sure we are offering the safest service possible to customers, riders and restaurants.”

The new process is simple. Riders will let the customer know they have arrived, place the thermal bag open on the ground outside the customer’s door, step back at least one metre, and wait for the customer to collect their food.

The contact-free delivery option works both ways, with riders also able to choose to make orders contact-less.

Deliveroo has also provided guidance to restaurants, customers, and riders on remaining safe as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Last week, the food delivery service announced a ‘hardship fund’ for riders, in which those who have contracted COVID-19 or been instructed to isolate by a medical authority will be eligible for financial support.
