COVID-19: Telstra & Optus Offer Additional Data To Assist Self-Isolation

As businesses direct staff to work from home, and universities and schools announce closures, the need for connectivity is only growing.

Social distancing and self-isolating are becoming a major part of the national response to COVID-19.

As businesses direct staff to work from home, and universities and schools announce closures, the need for connectivity is only growing.

Both Telstra and Optus are offering customers additional benefits to support this need, as detailed below.

Telstra Benefits:

From Thursday, 19 March, Telstra will be giving consumer and small business home broadband customers unlimited data at no additional charge until 30 April.

The data will be provided automatically, and it is hoped this will assist in facilitating videoconferencing, voiceover Wi-Fi, and cloud connectivity.

Telstra Post-Paid Customers:

Consumer and small business mobile customers will also receive additional data. Post-paid customers (both handheld and mobile broadband) can receive an extra 25GB of data on their plan to use in Australia within 30 days to assist what is rapidly becoming a more mobile workforce.

Post-paid customers can apply for the extra data via Telstra 24×7 and My Telstra Apps from this Thursday until 31 March. The data will be available within 24 hours.

Telstra Pre-Paid Customers:

Customers with an active recharge of $40+ can get 10GB of additional data to use in Australia within 28-30 days (depending on your plan).

Eligible pre-paid customers can apply for the extra data via our Telstra 24×7 and My Telstra Apps from Thursday until 31 March. The offer will be applied to customer accounts within 24-48 hours.

Eligible Pensioners With A Telstra Home Phone Plan:

Pensioners will be able to make unlimited local, national and 13/1300 calls, as well as calls to Australian mobiles from their home phones in Australia, from this Thursday until 30 April.

Optus Benefits:

Optus is also making moves to assist customers, offering benefits to both post-paid and pre-paid customers.

Optus Post-Paid Customers:

Optus will offer eligible post-paid mobile customers a one-off add-on of 20GB of data throughout April.

Optus Pre-Paid Customers:

Eligible pre-paid customers that recharge with $40 or more during April will receive 10GB of extra data. Each offer can be activated through the My Optus App.
