COVID-19 vaccine could arrive in Australia early next year

Australia’s deal for four potential COVID-19 vaccines will give the nation more than 134 million doses.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is hopeful Australia could see a COVID-19 vaccine as early as next year.

The Prime Minister announced an additional $1.5 billion investment the Novavax and Pfizer vaccines, bringing Australia’s total vaccine investment to $3.5 billion.

Dr Brendan Murphy, Australia’s former chief medical officer, who is now Secretary of the Department of Health, says the deal for four potential COVID-19 vaccines will give the nation more than 134 million doses.

The four vaccines include the University of Queensland CSL vaccine, the Novavax vaccine, the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine, and the Pfizer mRNA vaccine.

“We have diversified our strategy and we have the capacity to start vaccinating the Australian population in the first quarter of next year,” said the Prime Minister.

Phase three clinical trials are underway.
