You know, when you walk along the streets of Adelaide and you see embossed in tiles the word ‘Crack’ on the side of a building, you hardly seem surprised nowadays. Someone must be up to something.

Depending upon your relationship with coffee (or your dependency upon it) this new cafe might resonate somewhat. The couple behind The Loose Caboose and Whipped cafes are finally taking the plunge in the heart of the city and have selected the old bank site at 13 Franklin Street to create their new project. Welcome to the square mile Katie & Kim!

The building certainly stands out on Franklin St!

The building certainly stands out on Franklin St!

The building itself is architecturally almost the antitheses of those holes-in-the-wall that we have so many of, with high ceilings and plenty of space to fill. No doubt though, considering their roasting capacity at Loose Caboose, somewhere in the space there will be some familiar equipment fit in. Upstairs, a patisserie that channels the desserts of Whipped will be established by old hand Marie Robertson, a former chef at the aforementioned cafe.

Considering that each existing business from the Palmer’s is bursting at the seams with personality, it seems likely that Crack is set for a good injection of eclectic charm. Esoteric detail will no doubt be found by those who have traveled to the existing Hindmarsh and Sempahore locations, because we all like a bit of continuity.

The ETA on Crack is looking like later this month, so we will be keeping a close eye on the progress. Is Franklin going to become the new Pirie Street? Is Piries Street still the new Waymouth Street? Is anyone even keeping track anymore! There’s just too much going on.
