Little Red Riding Hood and Rudolph’s Christmas Lolly Trolley were the two magical new floats unveiled as the countdown begins to the 2013 Credit Union Christmas Pageant on Saturday 9 November.

Rodney Harrex, Chief Executive, South Australian Tourism Commission welcomed everybody to the 2013 Credit Union Christmas Pageant event launch and thanked key event partners and volunteers.

“Earlier this year I made my first visit to Stardust Castle and I was amazed at the incredible work done by the small team and proud of the fantastic asset we have in this State,” said Rodney Harrex.

“I am looking forward to experiencing my first Credit Union Christmas Pageant this year.”

Brian Gilbertson, Event Manager and Creative Director also officially announced the theme for this year’s event ’Everybody’s Welcome’ at today’s launch at Stardust Castle.

“The 2013 event is a reminder to us all that everybody in a broadly based community like Adelaide is welcome to share each other’s celebrations and cultures in harmony with one another. The Pageant knows no boundaries,” Mr Gilbertson said.

The two new floats and four character painted tow motors were all revealed to a crowd of more than 150 adults and children today at Stardust Castle as they were entertained by the SA Police Band, with the South Australia Police celebrating 175 years in the community in 2013.

Little Red Riding Hood, based on the much loved fairytale, will delight audiences of all ages, keep an eye out for Grandma! Rudolph’s Christmas Lolly Trolley is piled high with sweet treats.

For the first time, the tow motors (the small vehicles that pull the floats) have been brought to life as characters in their own right by the Pageant artists, adding another exciting visual element to the event.

Grant Strawbridge, Acting Chair, Credit Union Christmas Pageant Company, said the credit unions were looking forward to the event as they celebrate their 18th year of sponsorship of the event.

“The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is more than just a one day event for us; it is a 365 day commitment by the more than 1000 people who work or are associated with the credit unions.  We look forward to seeing the expressions on everyone’s face on Pageant day,” Mr Strawbridge said.

“The recent Creative Partnerships Australia Community Award win is testament to the unique partnership we have with the South Australian Government to present this free event. It not only brings the community together but is something that generates a great sense of pride which we share with everyone.”

‘Everybody’s Welcome’ to bring their biggest smiles and waves as they prepare to welcome Father Christmas when this spectacular parade arrives in Adelaide on Saturday 9 November 2013, starting at 9.30am.

More than 300,000 people are expected to line the Pageant route as Father Christmas makes his way from South Terrace to the Magic Cave at David Jones.

In 2013 the Pageant will be travelling a slightly different route around Victoria Square due to the current redevelopment. Event organisers encourage pageant-goers to study the route map carefully.

The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is owned and managed by the South Australian Tourism Commission on behalf of the South Australian Government and sponsored by People’s Choice Credit Union, Beyond Bank Australia, Credit Union SA and Police Credit Union.
