Cricket superstar Ricky Ponting to host intimate Adelaide dinner this December

Ricky Ponting will headline an exclusive dinner in North Adelaide this December, for a one-night-only Ashes-season experience.

We’re already in the midst of a fantastic summer of cricket, and to make it even better, there’s a rare chance to get closer than ever to one of the sport’s top names. In the lead-up to the 2025/26 Ashes Test Series, Ricky Ponting is stepping off the commentary bench and into a series of four intimate events across Perth, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide, giving fans the chance to wine, dine and hear stories from the man who helped define a generation of Australian cricket.

Adelaide’s exclusive event comes at the perfect time, taking place on Thursday, December 18th at North Adelaide’s new Yakisan Restaurant, right in the sweet spot of the Third Ashes Test at Adelaide Oval. For one night only, guests can enjoy one of the city’s most exciting Japanese dining spaces, where Executive Chef Adam Liston will showcase a three-course menu paired perfectly with the richness, structure and character of Ponting Wines. At $170 per person, you’ll get to experience a mix of great food and wine with cricketing history.

On show will be Ponting Wines, the label by Ricky Ponting and highly awarded winemaker Ben Riggs. Each wine in the collection has been crafted to reflect milestones, memories and influences from Ricky’s life, like his proud Tasmanian roots, his early days at the Mowbray Cricket Club, the epic battles of the Ashes, and the mateship forged across 168 Tests. It’s a portfolio shaped by character, legacy and the kind of detail that comes from two masters of their craft.

A standout of the collection is the Ponting 366, an exceptional Shiraz Cabernet blend drawn from McLaren Vale and Coonawarra, honouring his 168 Tests, 13,378 career runs and 41 centuries. It’s a wine designed to age, layered with depth and elegance, much like the man it celebrates. Also in the collection are the Tasmanian Chardonnay and Mowbray Boy Pinot Noir, both nodding to Ricky’s home state and the beginnings of a career that would see him captaining his country. For lovers of big, bold reds, The Pinnacle McLaren Vale Shiraz pays tribute to the intensity and rivalry of the Ashes, while The Close of Play Langhorne Creek Cabernet captures the quieter, reflective moments shared with teammates.

Pair these with Yakisan’s modern Japanese menu, which focuses on fire, seasonality and precision across three open kitchens, and you’ve got a night for the ages. Seats are limited, and with the Ashes in full swing and Ricky Ponting in the room, this is one of the hottest tickets of the summer!
