The Croatian Food & Wine Festival is back this November for the 18th Fešta at the Croatian Sports Centre SA Inc in Gepps Cross.
As one of the biggest Croatian festivals in the country, it’s a celebration of authentic food, wine, music, song and dance, on Saturday, November 23rd.
Fešta, pronounced “Feshta”, is a term generally used to describe events like festivals, celebrations or parties. “Basically, it’s the Croatian way to describe ‘a good time’,” said Festival Director, Gordana Smoljan.
After the event was founded 21 years ago, the festival has continued to be run by volunteers as an outdoor picnic-style event. It’s a casual and relaxed family day out with various regional Croatian cuisines on offer.
If you’ve never tried Croatian food you’re missing out. Experience authentic home-style dishes from recipes that have been passed down for generations. From fresh seafood to spit-roasted meats, paired with traditional specialties like, cevapcici in lepinja bread, sarma (cabbage rolls) with mashed potato and homemade sausage, and savoury Croatian pita, there’s something for everyone.
Let’s not forget the drinks. Croatian and local beer, wine, and spirits will all be on offer throughout the festival.
The day kicks off at 11am with a soccer match, the 2024 Fešta Cup. After an official welcome at 12:30pm, there’s plenty for the whole family to enjoy. With live music and Folkloric dance performances, face painting, amusement rides, a jumping castle and special guest appearances by sporting personalities with Croatian links, including A-League and AFL stars, there’s plenty to keep the kids entertained.
As the event heads into the evening, there will be a lottery draw, live music, a DJ and even a firework display, all before the event’s conclusion at 1am.
Whether you’re Croatian yourself, or simply looking for a fun day out, Fešta is the perfect excuse to get your friends and family together.
Fešta is organized by The Croatian Food & Wine Festival Committee, The Croatian Sports Centre SA Inc., and volunteers from various South Australian Croatian organizations, making it the largest event on the Croatian community calendar in South Australia.
