Crown and Anchor to host FREE live music event for Umbrella Festival opening night

Grenfell Street’s Crown & Anchor Hotel will host 1 of 4 live music events on 1 July to kick start the 2022 Umbrella Festival.

Grenfell Street’s iconic Crown & Anchor Hotel will be holding a free opening event of live music for the 2022 Umbrella Festival on Friday, 1 July, showcasing the talent of South Aussie musicians The Dunes, Honeybeam and Street Legal.

The not-for-profit organisation Music SA is bringing back the Umbrella Festival after it returned last year – following an uncertain series of lockdowns and social distancing – to promote and support upcoming South Australia musicians and local businesses.

Going Steady Music, who have been “bringing people together musically” since 2014, have now paired with rock’n’roll venue Crown & Anchor Hotel to host 1 of 4 FREE opening events to kick start the month long winter festival.

After The Dunes’ first ever album Oak Island/Off the Hip sold out, indie rock artists Stacie Reeves, Matt Reiner, Jessica Honeychurch, Claire O’Boyle, and Adam Vanderwerf will take the stage to perform a snippet of their upcoming releases.

The Dunes are eager to perform their “droney” take on psychedelic-rock after 2 years away from live performances. As the perfect blend of dark and peaceful, this Aussie brand will undoubtedly create the perfect atmosphere to share a cold beer with some friends.

Join Honeybeam as Adelaide-based Maya Adamson performs her signature mix of velvety indie and alternative rock with a hint of jazz. Her soulful performance is bound to keep you warm on a night in July.

Bonded over their love for David Bowie is newly emerging South Australian band Street Legal. Listen in to Matthew Hayward, Libby Verrall, Kyron Weetra, Shara Klecka and Max Tulysewski as their 80s-influenced indie rock will take you through the motions of love and the concerns of capitalism.

For the entire month of July, the festival will include over 90 local venues across South Australian cities, metro areas and regionally in the Eyre Peninsula, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island and the Limestone Coast.

If folk music and alley-jazz are your style, American inspired bar NOLA Adelaide will be hosting an opening event with local Aidan Jazzy Jones from 5pm on 1 July, while the Grace Emily Hotel will be curating local South Australian Cookie Baker for a night of indie pop at 7pm. Or, if your vibe is more chill, JIVE Nightclub in Hindley Street is all about indie rock with Best of Friends from 7pm.

The Crown & Anchor Hotel is located 196 Grenfell St, Adelaide SA 5000.
