While heading to Cuba isn’t too easy in the current climate, this quirky club in Norwood brings Cuba to you.
What was once home to the iconic Ballroom lounge bar and pool hall, Cue Bar took over in 2018 and revamped the space into a Havana paradise.
From the moment you walk up the stairs enclosed by colourful murals, guests are taken from the streets of The Parade to a destination of island fun.
Painted words stating “Welcome to the republican of fun” greets you as you walk into the vast colourful space.
With a massive collection of pool tables centred by a loaded bar and scattered with quirky statues, Cue Bar is dedicated to providing an incredible atmosphere.
New owner Tracy Marsh said the goal when taking over the venue three years ago was to transform it into a space for anyone and everyone to come and let their hair down.
“Everyone had happy memories of Ballroom which used to be traditional pool hall but it was a bit of a boys club,” she said.
“We’ve turned it into a space where everyone and anyone is welcome to come here.
“From school kids and families to business professionals – all are welcome to come and relax into the Havana vibes and have a go at pool.”
The Cuban theme idea came about as Tracy thought of a name for the space. When Cue Bar came to mind, so did a Cuban deck out.
Bar tenders wearing Hawaiian shirts serve all the drinks and cocktails you could want at affordable prices, while a juke box with 12,000 songs invites you to take a pick.
Every Thursday night and Sunday afternoon, Cue Bar hosts live bands which draws big crowds into the venue for a few hours of vibrant dance fun.
The line-up for November and December will bring Lazaro Numba & Sabor a Cuba to the stage with vibrant salsa music. There will also be The Crooners Leo and The Don as well as JD Lord Band playing over the next couple of months.
Tracy said there is a massive Latino community in Adelaide and Cue Bar celebrates this.
“Cubans love music, dancing, Havana, and fun – Cue Bar is about bringing this all together,” she said.
Home to the largest disco ball in the southern hemisphere, Cue Bar has retained some of the old iconic features on Ballroom, most noticeably, the unique collection of statues from the golden mummy that you touch for good luck, to the upside-down pool table hanging from the roof.
Ballroom was also the oldest pool lounge bar in Adelaide – Cue Bar has carried on this aspect with 18 pool tables that are available to book online.
The venue is perfect for private functions too, with the open space, mics, screens and a stage.
