Cult favourite bakery ScRoll Queen to open new Mount Gambier store

Limestone Coast’s ScRoll Queen is expanding its empire with a second store- and there will be more than just scrolls on the menu.

ScRoll Queen, the beloved Limestone Coast bakery that turned scrolls into a cult-favourite, is set to expand its empire with a second store in the heart of Mount Gambier.

The new store will be open by the end of November, and this store promises more than just mouth-watering scrolls.

ScRoll Queen founder Dylan McQueen says the new store, located at 17a Crouch Street South, Mount Gambier, will have a focus on coffee, something they couldn’t offer at their first store, and will add breakfast and lunch scroll options to the menu.

“It is a space to build our brand and allow us to focus on coffee as well, thats what we’re really wanting to grow with, especially with being in town as well,” he says.

“We are wanting to focus on that and really use this store as a blueprint for how we want to look as a store and how we want it to grow. It’s really a bit of a test, a bit of a trial to see what else we can do and how we can make the most of it.”

While classic fan favourites will still be available, Dylan says they will be experimenting with a few new options. Think loaded scrolls: bacon and egg scroll for breakfast, perhaps?

“We can get pretty crazy and creative, we’re getting local chef Lochlan Moulden in, we will focus on breakfast and lunch options to go hand-in-hand with coffee,” he says.

The new store will also be stepping it up a notch on the ‘fancy’ scale and will embrace the ‘royal’ essence of the brand.

“We are wanting to try and match that royal theme, ‘A Taste of Royalty,’ we want it to look nice and look inviting and match our interior with the quality of the scroll,” he says.

ScRoll Queen started from humble beginnings, opening a small storefront on the outskirts of Mount Gambier several years ago, and it quickly become the talk of the town. Fast forward to today, and you could say Dylan has built a bit of a scroll empire in the South East. His goal? To become the ultimate Australian scrolls.

“Cinnamon scrolls are a big thing in the States and Europe, we haven’t really had a good scroll store in Australia before I don’t feel, so I guess I just wanted to fill a hole in the market and develop a brand and franchise,” he says.

“We’re very different to anything else I guess, it took me a long time to develop the recipe how I wanted it to be, the proof is in the scroll. We try and match our customer service to the quality of our products as well, we really try and look after people and try and bring joy to people through good food, we are passionate about what we’re doing and love our job.”

ScRoll Queen caters to not only people with a sweet tooth, but those wanting something savoury too. Although all their scrolls are nothing short of delicious, Dylan says there are some of stand-out scrolls.

“All our cheesecake flavours tend to go off. It started with a blueberry cheesecake and we’ve done Oreo, Lemon, and Biscoff Caramel cheesecake scrolls as well- they’re the more decadent options. All our savoury scrolls are really popular as well,” he says.

Dylan says they are keen to expand to Adelaide and potentially regional Victoria too- with a goal to go even further and turn ScRoll Queen into a franchise.

“It’s quite humbling and overwhelming to know that people love ScRoll Queen so much. It’s very cool, I’m very grateful to everyone who supports ScRoll Queen,” he says.
