Daily testing of all workers in medi-hotels is set to finally start today, a month after it was agreed upon at national cabinet.
National Cabinet agreed to the national standard in January for all medi-hotel and transport workers to receive a daily test.
This week, medi-hotel staff will also belatedly move into the new COVID-positive medi-hotel, Tom’s Court Hotel.
In November, a statewide lockdown was triggered following an outbreak from the Peppers medi-hotel, where a private security guard was infected – passing the virus to another private security guard and to a cleaner.
“We’ve seen the risks to our state through the Pepper Hotel outbreak and now we have already seen UK and South African strains in our medi-hotels. Every precaution must be taken to ensure that our state stays safe,” said Shadow Minister for Health and Wellbeing Chris Picton.
