Darth Vader Thanks One Million SA/NT Volunteers

‘Darth Vader’ is joining the journey to thank over one million volunteers in South Australia and the Northern Territory

For Star Wars fans, right across the globe, May 4 is classified as Star Wars Day, a day to celebrate the phenomenon of the hit movie franchise.

With a take on ‘May the force’ be with you, May 4 is a significant diary date for millions of people all around the world.

With the help of a well-known character (and a local volunteer group), ‘Darth Vader’ is joining the journey to thank over one million volunteers in South Australia and the Northern Territory by launching National Volunteer Week from 18-24 May 2020.

It’s been a trying time for everyone during the COVID-19 pandemic and in South Australia, the devastating bushfires.

Whilst some volunteers have had to step down temporarily, others have stepped up to help with vulnerable groups and essential services.

Evelyn O’Loughlin, CEO of Volunteering SA&NT said that these tough times have really bonded communities which ties in with this year’s National Volunteer Week theme of Changing Communities. Changing Lives.

“We want everyone, right down the middle of Australia – from the North to the South, to stand out as much as the ‘Red Guards’ by joining our online social media campaign #ColourYourCommunityRed.

“We’ve made it easy for everyone in the community to be involved – from businesses to community groups, not-for-profits, schools and sporting clubs – as well as government and individuals.

“We want to thank every single volunteer, along every street and in every community.

“And you can show your support by tying something red out the front of your home or business from Monday 18 May for the week.

“And if you’re a volunteer, then stand up, be proud, and participate in this colourful campaign”, said Ms O’Loughlin.

Tie a red ribbon (scarf, table cloth, or even a t-shirt) around your letterbox, door, fence or tree to show your support of volunteers. Take a picture or a video, post it to Volunteering SA&NT/Volunteering NT socials to show how great it is to be or know a volunteer.

Use the hashtags #SAVolunteer #VolunteeringNT #ColourYourCommunityRed and one with your postcode #[insertpostcode] to connect our communities.

Volunteering SA&NT has led the volunteering sector in South Australia and the Northern Territory for 38 years. They continue to work with individuals, organisations, businesses and communities to lead, advance, grow, promote and celebrate volunteering. Volunteering NT is a division of VSA&NT.
