Barossa based winery, David Franz Wines, has secured a win in Gourmet Traveller Wine’s Australia’s Best Cellar Door Awards for 2021.
According to the wine connoisseurs, David Franz Wines has been noted as a ‘star cellar door’ and the ‘best tasting experience’ in the Barossa Valley region.
“David Franz cellar door gets the nod this year because it just feels like a place where wine is meant to be enjoyed – preferably in the company of friends and definitely with a plate of something delicious,” shares Gourmet Traveller.
This hidden gem offers fantastic sweeping views of the vines, as well as delicious food offerings and, as you’d expect, exceptional wines.
Since 2017, owner David Lehman has put everything into his cellar door, bringing with him years of experience and unlimited passion.
Lehman has developed a wide variety of wines, from crisp riesling and chardonnay, vibrant rosé and sparkling shiraz, to bold mataro, grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. A lot of his wines have a touching backstory, many of which are inspired by his family, with one even inspired by his dog.
The quirky branding attributes to their fun and unconventional spirit. At the cellar door, guests can even head to the fridge and put together their own charcuterie plate!
Other Barossa cellar doors that got an honourable mention by Gourmet Traveller are Seppeltsfield, Whistler Wines, Hentley Farm, Penfolds and St Hugo Wines.
As for the other South Australia wine regions, Deviation Road won for the Adelaide Hills, Matriarch & Rouge and Vanguardist Wines tied for the Clare Valley, Bellwether Wines won in the Coonawarra region, The Islander Estate Vineyards won for Kangaroo Island, Bremerton Wines won in Langhorne Creek and Coriole Vineyards won in McLaren Vale.
