Davine Productions celebrates 10 years of local music theatre with ‘A New Brain’ next month

Riding on the heels of their sell-out hit, “Beautiful, The Carole King Musical”, they are set to introduce South Australian audiences to another first – “A New Brain”.

Get ready for another highly anticipated, heartfelt musical experience as David Gauci and Davine Productions mark a decade in the music theatre industry.

Riding on the heels of their sell-out hit, “Beautiful, The Carole King Musical”, they are set to introduce South Australian audiences to another first – “A New Brain”.

This isn’t just another musical; it’s a raw and real semi-autobiographical tale penned by Tony Award-winning composer William Finn, known for his work on Broadway favourites like “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and “Falsettos”. Teaming up with James Lapine for the book and Jason Robert Brown for the vocal arrangements, they’ve created a show that’s as genuine as it is entertaining.

Inspired by the works of legendary Broadway composers, “A New Brain” dives deep into the complexities of human relationships, life’s trials, and the comforting embrace of music. With over 20 catchy songs, a cast of 11 relatable characters, and a nine-member orchestra, it’s a musical that speaks to the heart and soul.

The story is a personal one, drawing from William Finn’s own brush with death. It’s a musical filled with surreal moments and a good dose of humour, reflecting on those life-changing instances that remind us of what truly matters. It’s about fresh starts and the simple joys of life, portrayed through a lens that’s both witty and down-to-earth.

David says, “having performed in the professional production of A New Brain in Melbourne, I have always wanted to bring this quirky musical to South Australian audiences. I am also very proud that Davine Productions is celebrating 10 years of niche music theatre and cabaret in 2023”

The cast, a group including Adam Goodburn, Catherine Campbell, Mark DeLaine, Lindsay Prodea and Daniel Hamilton, are ready to deliver a performance that will resonate with many. And with Peter Johns as the Musical Director and Shenayde Wilkinson-Sarti choreographing, it’s set to blow your socks off.

So, clear your schedule from October 13 to October 21, 2023, and head over to The Star Theatre One for a musical experience that you don’t want to miss.

“A New Brain manages to be one of the most life-affirming, most heartfelt musicals written in the last decades of the twentieth century…” Scott Miller (Author, composer)
