The South Australian Starz again split their games on day three of the Australian Softball Championships, in Mirrabooka, Western Australia.  Beating Northern Territory Fury 13-7 before going down at the death knell against Western Australia Flames, 2-1.

Against the Fury, South Australia trailed 4-0 in the first inning before unleashing 11 runs over the next two frames, two-run triples by Ada Brincat-Tree in the second and Jenny Dunn in the third the highlights.

It was a good batting performance all round, with the Starz collecting 16 hits, Jasmine Lee and Belinda White leading the way with three each. Courtney Auger was the winning pitcher.

The second game was another tight affair for the Starz, with Western Australia scoring an early run in the second inning, before Belinda White stole home in the fourth frame to tie up the ball game.

In the final inning the Flames managed to score the go-ahead run, then held South Australia out to claim the win.

Monica Perry again pitched a good game for the Starz but was credited with her first loss of the championships, after giving up seven hits and no walks for four strikeouts over seven innings.

Wednesday’s games: the Starz play Queensland Heat at 11am and Northern Territory Fury at 3pm.
