More enduring than a friendship bracelet, but a little less commitment than a tattoo, permanent jewellery has risen in popularity to celebrate meaningful relationships.
Bowerbird, a twice-a-year market event that brings a range of designers and makers together, has also noted this trend. That is why inviting a long-time vendor Days of August to their May event, to provide installation of permanent jewellery, was an easy decision.
So, what is permanent jewellery?
“It is a chain that is welded together with no clasp, to create a seamless piece of jewellery,” Bowerbird market owner Peggy Byrne says.
“Due to its meaning, it has become somewhat of a token to share with somebody important to you. You often see best friends, sisters, mums and daughters get them together. Even partners.”
These beautiful chains are quite simplistic in nature, but small designs like stars and engraved pendants can be added, to personalise these ever-long pieces. Available in gold or silver- these subtle pieces suit anybody.
With the popularity and interest in permanent jewellery growing stronger and stronger, the team behind Bowerbird knew that it would be a welcome addition to the May event.
“Days of August have been at Bowerbird markets for some time, but this is the first time they are offering this kind of service,” Byrne adds.
Bowerbird returns to the Adelaide Showground 5-7 May, which is just in time to shop for your Mum. With everything from handmade knits, ceramics, clothes and accessories, there is something for every Mum.
You can experience tastings of local produce, art exhibitions and even a range of workshops and classes including clay making, painting, book making, rug weaving and a gin cocktail masterclass.
Browse the markets or grab a coffee to relax, this three-day event is a family friendly occasion with something for everyone.
The Permanent Jewellery Day with Days of August will be held on May 7th, the last day of Bowerbird’s 3-day event.
To secure your spot there is a $50 booking fee. This will be taken off the overall price of the jewellery, where the minimum price of a chain is $80. Each appointment is 15 minutes, allowing enough time for the chain to be welded together.
Whether you decide to get a chain for yourself or as a symbol of your relationship with somebody else, the Bowerbird’s Permanent Jewellery Day with Days of August is the perfect way to try it for yourself.
Not to worry though, they are only as permanent as you want it to be. If you need to remove it, it can be cut off without any risk to the wearer.
Bookings are essential though, so get in fast so you don’t miss out.
