MNDSA is a registered charity and is the only organisation that has been providing dedicated support to South Australians impacted by Motor Neurone Disease.
MNDSA is a registered charity and for the past 38 years, is the only organisation that has been providing dedicated support to South Australians impacted by Motor Neurone Disease (MND), working closely and personally with patients, families, carers, workplaces and health professionals confronted by MND. MNDSA offers a range of support services including support coordination, allied health services , as well as the provision of vital assistive equipment including home aids and communication devices. Advocacy and education about MND also form a key part of MNDSA’s purpose.
MNDSA’s efforts aim to improve the quality of life for those living with MND by addressing their immediate needs and helping them manage the daily challenges of the disease and complex supports they require at no or minimal cost to the person with MND. A diagnosis of MND not only impacts the person with MND but also on average 14 other direct people around them. MNDSA need to fundraise in order to continue providing these vital services, as without them there is no one else to take the call when a person is diagnosed.
Back in 2020, MNDSA funded a research fellow through the MND Clinic with Flinders Foundation so that clinical trials could be brought to SA. SA Health seeing the results on those trials and the work are now funding this research indefinitely. This was made possible by donations and advocacy.
MNDSA supports 150 people affected by MND at any one time. Four to six people in SA are diagnosed each month and sadly, four to six people pass away from MND each month.
