Korean food has had quite the resurgence across Adelaide of late and with good reason. The classic combinations of rice, meat and vegetables cooked to perfection in their own unique way make the cuisine a sought-after comfort food and now, a new Korean restaurant is bringing traditional, home-style meals to Adelaide.
Situated in the heart of North Adelaide, Chulpan has answered Adelaide’s collective calling for a venue that mainly focuses on Korean cuisine which includes traditional dak-galbi and kalguksu recipes.
The literal translation for Chulpan is iron plate and relates to the usually round hot plate that you would ordinarily find built into the tables of a traditional Korean BBQ dak-galbi restaurant. It is on these hot plates that this popular Korean dish which is spicy and full of flavour is served.
For those of you craving a hearty Korean dish that isn’t spicy, Chulpan also brings to life kalguksu, a delicious Korean noodle soup. Translating to “knife noodle”, Kalguksu refers to the hero of this awe-inspiring comfort soup. The beautiful homemade knife-cut wheat noodles sit delicately in its broth creating a warm, fuzzy feeling that will make you feel a sense of ease like only a homecooked meal can.
Combining the noodles, which take on a curious and slightly chewy texture with a flavorful broth and other ingredients for garnish makes this soup a dish to crave any time of the year.
With sights set on an opening date of January 20, you won’t have to wait too much longer to get a seat at what is bound to be the hottest table in Adelaide (pun very much intended).
Chulpan is located at 1/116 Melbourne Street, North Adelaide.
