Summer is on the way, the water is warming up and South Australia’s premier guided snorkel tour organisation – the Experiencing Marine Sanctuaries (EMS) – is set to show you a whole new world right on our doorstep.

Every year, from early spring to mid-autumn, the not-for-profit hosts a series of snorkel events and tours around the state, providing participants the opportunity to explore our marine parks and discover the wonders of our unique and endemic marine life in all its colourful glory. In June and July, the snorkel tour also offers guests a chance to swim with the giant cuttlefish at Point Lowly.

From leafy sea dragons, sea lions, totally harmless Port Jackson sharks, vibrant fish, sea squirts, corals and sponges, South Australia’s reefs and jetties are a veritable treasure trove of wonders that will enlighten and surprise those participating in this incredible experience.

All small group snorkel tours are led by national accredited snorkel guides who are often accompanied by both student and qualified marine biologists. The snorkel tours are run from shore in water no deeper than five meters, meaning anyone from five years old and over can enjoy this underwater adventure. Groups will be broken up to match ability and experience, with family and friends group together.

For those needing a little guidance before weathering the ocean, EMS offers ‘Snorkel 101’ – in pool classes for all ages.

Wherever you’re spending the warmer months, Experiencing Marine Sanctuaries, has events from the magnificent Limestone coast and its incredible Piccaninnie Ponds, to the stunning waters of the Yorke and Eyre Peninsula, or closer to home along our own metro beaches, where you’ll discover marine life you never imagined lived right alongside us.

Events are added to the EMS website all the time as permits and approvals are granted by local authorities. Events are also posted on Facebook and Instagram so be sure to follow the EMS social media pages to be the first in the know as tickets sell out fast.

Ticket price includes snorkel gear and warm wetsuits for adults and children if needed. Wetsuits are double washed and masks and snorkels are sterilised between uses.

All Experiencing Marine Sanctuaries events are held within current COVID guidelines. Bookings can be made here.
