Discover Westminster School at its November Open Day

On 3 November, visitors will be able to see Westminster in action, showcasing the new state-of-the-art Forder Centre, home to Music and Performing Arts.

Westminster School takes great pride in developing and preparing students for life beyond school, whether in academics, the arts, sport, or service. Prospective students and parents can now explore all Westminster has to offer at the School’s Open Day on Thursday 3 November.

From 9.30 am, you will be able to see Westminster in action and gain a real insight into the Senior School (Years 7 to 12) or Preparatory School (Early Learning to Year 6).

Open Day tours will be introduced by Westminster’s Principal Simon Shepherd and hosted by Heads of Schools and Student Leaders.

Among the many ‘fun facts’ you’ll learn throughout the day, you’ll discover that Westminster offers more than 40 subjects in Year 12; has around 140 sporting teams across the School; and features a magnificent 1000-seat theatre that is used at all student assemblies and performances.

The academic curriculum spans all the main learning areas. Science, Technologies, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics make full use of the STEAM precinct, which includes the new Inquiry and Innovation Hub. Additionally, this precinct covers Design and Architecture, VET/Tech and business subjects.

The new state-of-the-art Forder Centre, forming a multi-levelled backdrop to the newly landscaped Westminster Green, is the home to Music and Performing Arts. Add into the mix Photography, Graphic Design and Fashion, in its purpose built studio workshop, and there is a comprehensive selection of subjects to satisfy the most creative of students.

Westminster is known for excellent student academic results. All students in the Class of 2021 achieved their SACE. Of those eligible for an ATAR, 18.4% of students recorded an ATAR of 95 or above, including the School Dux with the highest ATAR possible of 99.95.

Other outstanding student outcomes saw 33.7% gain an ATAR of 90 or more and 63.3%, 80 or more. Positive results such as these are possible with the encouragement and support of committed teaching staff, smaller class sizes and service learning built on a strong foundation that encapsulates the school’s values of resilience, courage, curiosity, kindness, and inclusivity.

All students participate in Wellbeing@West, a program that implements the principles of Positive Psychology and the science of wellbeing in the classroom.

Westminster’s Wellbeing program enables students to learn their character strengths, develop self-esteem and confidence, and provides teaching staff with tools to help students.

All wellbeing activities are designed to support the elements of PERMA+ (Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment, + Physical Activity, Nutrition, Sleep and Optimism).

Open Day will also provide families with a valuable understanding of the School’s wellbeing program, making its own contribution to students being able to achieve more than they ever thought possible.
