Beachside Bistro, District B 5165 is elevating its offerings with a transformation of its original juice bar into a brand-new gin and whisky bar this summer.
After a decade spent working in the hospitality industry, District B 5165 was opened in 2021 by Alicia Lawlor and her partner Matt.
“The building was up for lease and we quickly jumped on it purely for the stunning location. The view overlooking Rotary Park and the stunning waters are just to die for,” shared Alicia.
“I have been in the hospitality industry for over 10 years, I first started working in fast food at McDonald’s when I was 13 then I transitioned into cafes and restaurants which has enabled me to travel all over Australia for work. One of my favourite jobs was for the 5-star One & Only empire when they were open on Hayman Island.”
Located in Christies Beach, District B 5165 is a restaurant, cafe and wine bar all in one, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner and now with the vibrant new bar, cocktails!

Originally the bar was a takeaway juice bar, but with big plans to continue growing, Alicia and Matt decided a change was needed.
“It was originally trialled as a takeaway juice bar but that didn’t seem to have a public appeal so we tried to brainstorm other options. My partner Matt and I settled on having it as a specialist ‘Whisky & Gin’ bar showcasing local products, as well as known and loved brands too.”
The bar is set to be open Fridays and Saturdays from 12pm until late and as the bar gains popularity, the hours will be expanded.
“If all goes to plan we will be up and running this weekend!” says Alicia.
At the bar, the full menu will be served during kitchen hours, plus snacks, cocktails and of course gin and whisky will all be available.

Alicia says the Lychee spritz is a must-try, and as for food; “It’s a toss-up between our Ensalada Mexicana which is a Mexican-inspired salad. The flavours are incredible. That or our crispy cauliflower. Again, flavours!”
As summer rolls around Christies Beach is set to heat up.
“There’s lots happening down here. A few new cafes and bars. It is making it a real weekend hotspot which is something down south really needs. I think this summer there is going to be a real fun energy in Christies.
“But it’s still a work in progress. Hospo is a tough gig for small business owners at the moment, we are all trying our best to give people what they want but the cost of living is affecting us all so we’re doing the best we can!”
