The Kitchen at SkyCity Adelaide is transforming into an oyster lover’s paradise this September. Their month-long Oyster Soiree, running until the 28th, is a celebration of this briny delicacy that promises to tantalize even the most discerning palate.
Head Chef Kel Delaney’s philosophy of championing local produce shines through in the Soiree’s exclusive menu. “Our oysters are sourced from some the most well-regarded fisheries in the world,” she shared. “There’s nowhere that comes close to South Australia for quality and freshness.” And with the current oyster season in full swing, the oysters are at their peak – plump, juicy and bursting with flavour.
Delaney’s commitment to showcasing the oyster’s natural essence is evident in the limited-time menu. Entrees like crispy oyster bao, pickled oyster crostini, and smoked oyster mousse-filled puri offer a playful yet sophisticated take on this versatile shellfish. For the main course, the Oyster Linguini with kombu butter is a testament to simplicity done right, while the tempura oyster atop Murray Cod is a delightful fusion of textures and flavours.
The bar menu, too, has been given the oyster treatment. A refined oyster martini featuring Never Never’s Oyster Shell Gin with a pickled oyster garnish is perfect for sipping, while the adventurous Oyster Shot, with Herradura Tequila, is sure to make a splash. These special concoctions complement The Kitchen’s already extensive wine, beer, spirit, and cocktail list.
Purists haven’t been forgotten. A selection of freshly shucked oysters from renowned South Australian regions like Coffin Bay and Kangaroo Island are on offer. Coffin Bay oysters, known for their creamy texture and subtle sweetness, are a true delicacy. Meanwhile, Kangaroo Island oysters, with their distinctive briny flavour and firm texture, are a testament to the island’s pristine waters. Each oyster, served simply, is a celebration of South Australia’s rich coastal bounty. More options are also on the table, with Sydney Rock and Smoky Bay oysters also adding to the delicacies on offer.
For the more adventurous, a range of curated toppings, from the zesty Finger Lime & Shiso to the exotic Coconut & Lychee, and the classic Gin & Tonic to the indulgent San Daniele & Smokey Beerenberg, add an extra dimension of flavour and excitement.
The Kitchen’s evolution from a New York-style grill to a champion of South Australian produce is perfectly embodied in the Oyster Soiree. The focus on local suppliers, seasonal ingredients, and simple, flavour-driven dishes creates an authentic and unforgettable dining experience.
