The much-loved characters of Downton Abbey will make their return to the big screen this summer, with Downton Abbey: A New Era to hit cinemas in March.
The entire cast of the popular television series will be back with stars Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West joining the line-up for the sequel.
The original series starring Hugh Bonneville, Jessica Brown Findlay, Laura Carmichael and Jim Carter (to name a few), is set on the fictional Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey bestween 1912 and 1926. Following the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and servants, the much-loved television program finished up on our screens back in 2015, to the dismay of its world-wide following.
Fans were again reunited with their favourite characters following the release of Downton Abbey (the movie) in 2019, with the ending leaving the Crawley’s on the cusp of more major changes.
It’s ending teased the possibility of a follow-up film, with the biggest question on the minds of fans being if Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith) will make an appearance in the early part of the film (attempting not to make any spoilers here!).
Now, followers of the show can rejoice in knowing that the story-lines of Downton Abbey’s loveable characters will continue with this second film sure to be a hit across cinemas.
It’s short sixteen second sneak-peek trailer shows the glimpse of a wedding, a possible voyage and the family reuniting amongst the distinctive Downton grounds, and it has to be said, we’re excited to see what’s in store next for this dynamic, aristocratic family!
