Dr Nicola Spurrier reveals latest Covid safety advice ahead of Christmas season

As Covid numbers begin to rise, SAs Chief Health Officer has offered some sound advice as the busy social season approaches.

The number of covid cases across South Australia is on the rise.

South Australia’s chief public health officer Dr Nicola Spurrier says new Covid modelling shows we are nearing the peak of the current wave of infections.

Masks are being recommended for those within the community, in particular during Black Friday shopping.

So what does this mean for Christmas festivities?

“We’re a very well vaccinated state”, Ms Spurrier said.

“I think we should be saying to Father Christmas you’re going to be safe coming into our state.

“We know what we’re doing here.

“Father Christmas you should have had your four doses of the vaccine”.

Black Friday sales are due to kick off next week and shoppers are being urged to remain vigilant.

“I’m sure Rundle Mall is hoping it will be full of people, especially those who are out looking for those Christmas gifts as well as taking advantage of the sales,” Ms Spurrier said.

“My advice to people is have your mask in your pocket and pop it on particularly as we’re on the upswing of that curve.

“This is only for a couple of weeks just as we get over that curve and start coming down the other side.

It is timely to remain vigilant with the high number of cases within the community and be mindful of those vulnerable within our community.

It is advisable to wear a mask in high-risk settings.
