Internationally Acclaimed Vocal Accompanist Returns To Adelaide

From 1 to 5 July 2015, the Accompanists’ Guild of SA will welcome back Malcolm Martineau to Adelaide.

Accompanists Guild of SA founder, Diana Harris OAM says, “We are indebted to State Opera of SA for making Malcolm’s visit possible. His 2008 visit was such a special occasion, his abilities as performer, teacher/mentor and guide made such an impact. We are thrilled to have him back with us in 2015. ”

Malcolm Martineau is recognised as one of the leading accompanists of his generation, he has worked with many of the world’s greatest singers including Sir Thomas Allen, Dame Janet Baker, Olaf Bär, Barbara Bonney, Ian Bostridge, Angela Gheorghiu, Susan Graham, Thomas Hampson, Della Jones, Simon Keenlyside, Angelika Kirchschlager, Magdalena Kozena, Solveig Kringelborn, Jonathan Lemalu, Dame Felicity Lott, Christopher Maltman, Karita Mattila, Lisa Milne, Ann Murray, Anna Netrebko, Anne Sofie von Otter, Joan Rodgers, Amanda Roocroft, Michael Schade, Frederica von Stade, Sarah Walker and Bryn Terfel.

Malcolm had such a great time when he was in Adelaide that he was keen to return. As an added bonus, Malcolm will bring as his recital associate – the distinguished Austrian baritone, Florian Boesch. Malcolm and Florian will perform their renowned interpretation of Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin. Their Onyx CD recording has recently been nominated for a 2015 Grammy Award.

Florian Boesch is counted as one of today’s foremost Lieder interpreters, with appearances at the Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw, the Edinburgh Festival, the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the Schwetzinger Festival and the Philharmonie in Luxemburg as well as in the USA and Canada.

During the short visit, Malcolm will also present masterclasses with the State Opera of SA Young and Emerging Artists, speak at the Accompanists’ Guild’s Conference and judge the 2015 Geoffrey Parsons Award.

Malcolm Martineau’s 2008 visit provided a number of singers and accompanists with invaluable professional development. Amongst the many individuals who benefited from working with him were soprano Emma Horwood and now Europe-based tenor, Robert MacFarlane.

Other events that will occur as part of the Festival will include, Lunch Hour concerts with Junior Accompanists, Young Accompanists performing at the Conference and Australia’s most prestigious accompanying competition, the Geoffrey Parsons Award.
