Hoverboarding hilarity meets beatboxing bohemian street performance

Part of the Big Family Weekend at Festival Plaza, Found Objects is a fun mix of dance, theatre, parkour and, most importantly, hoverboards to entertain young ones and the young at heart.
Featuring five talented artists — Libby Montilla, Samuel Beazley, Olivia Hadley, Romain Hassanin and Joel Fenton— audience members were treated to forty minutes of energetic performance. In the opening act, Spin, friends played basketball in new ways, the height challenged using their team member’s shoulders to gain the advantage. From there, the show took a cheeky turn with a renegade remote control car chasing a parkour performer all over the stage. Evolving into acrobatics and breakdancing (from the performer, not the car) this one certainly made the kids laugh.
Next was a clown on a hoverboard, followed by a series of boy band-like dance segments, also on hoverboard. Great accompanying tunes kept the energy high, featuring classics from The Beatles and more recent dance and beatboxing tracks. There was “popping”, “tutting”, “krumping” and breakdancing galore and, if you were there with a child, I’ll bet a request for a hoverboard will feature on Santa’s request list this year!
While lots of fun, Found Objects was perhaps a little too long for some of the younger audience members, with the density of the crowd diminishing around the 20 minute mark. There was also quite a bit of ‘sameness’ with the hoverboard dance routines and, overall, it would have benefited from a tighter set. But this show was still great fun and given it was situated beside a giant play area where kids got to make forts, cubby houses, tyre stacks (whatever they wanted with the myriad of stuff available), it was an overall great family outing. If you miss it in 2023, look out for Found Objects in future festivals—it would be fab to see these performers back for more hoverboarding hilarity.
