What happens when you combine everyone’s favourite drink with one of the world’s cutest animals? Something amazing of course, and that’s exactly what the folks at Blend Etiquette have created. Through a resourceful crowdfunding project, they’ve concocted a delicious gin, aptly named Gin Pangolin, that contributes to the conservation of the endangered pangolins.

Wondering what a pangolin is? Don’t worry, so were we when we first found about this incredible project. Now we’re having trouble dragging ourselves away from pangolin Youtube videos – they are insanely cute! Picture an adorable cross between an anteater and a pinecone, covered with protective scales. Found in parts of Africa and Asia, these little guys are unfortunately under threat as the most trafficked animal in the world.

Captivated by the pangolin’s plight, SA’s Blend Etiquette pledged to donate 10% of all Gin Pangolin profits to conservation organisation, Save Pangolins.

If you don’t know who Blend Etiquette are, the connoisseurs are connected to two of gin’s heavy-hitters, Kangaroo Island Spirits and Howling Owl and have been floating around the South Australian beverage scene for almost three years. As a start-up, they successfully produced Snake Oil Tonic Syrup, and now, the perfect gin to team it with.

The result, Gin Pangolin, is described as a ‘clean coastal themed gin with slight oriental flavours’, ideal to blend well with any mixer or just as good neat. Armed with some good tasting gin and a damn good cause to support, Blend Etiquette whipped up the first batch last July, with the help of Kangaroo Island Spirits.

To get things really happening, and get some money toward Save Pangolins, they set up the crowd funding page and thankfully it was a huge success, managing to raise just over their $20,000 target this month. And the good news is that $1 for every $10 donated will go straight to Save Pangolins.

If you’re wondering how you can support this initiative, check out Save Pangolins, and in the meantime, just go ahead and drink some gin. You can buy it here. You’ll feel good about every sip of Pangolin Gin you take, knowing that you’re not only supporting a local SA business, but you’re helping to save the gorgeous little pangolins too.
