So where should you go to get as close to heaven as possible? We’ve put together a list of Adelaide’s best rooftop bars to help you head for the clouds.
2KW

You may have noticed it’s at the top of so many of our lists (guys, they’re alphabetical!) but this innovative spot really shook up the Adelaide scene when it opened its doors. Gloriously glamorous (with a dress code to match, so tuck in your shirts lads) this spot has spectacular views of the city. It’s best for those lazy afternoon nibbles and cocktails that turn into nights filled with friends, wine and laughter. The 2KW team added some mighty fine heating and clear blinds to shelter you from the weather, but not hinder your view on those cooler evenings.

Henley House

Formerly known as West, this fresh rooftop bar in Henley Beach is something else. The 70-seat bar which is the upstairs offering from the ‘Henley House’ venue, takes its design cues from some of the older Henley houses, with an art deco feel. An island bar with a giant timber bar top is the focal point. By the beach, lovely drinks and snacks on offer and a view like no other… this is one spot you’ll have to check out ASAP. They are always updating their menus as seasons change, so make sure you don’t miss out.

Merrymaker Rooftop

Merrymaker made a big impact early on in its introduction to the rooftop scene. It’s had rave reviews, and it’s easy to see why: fresh produce direct from South Australia’s regions, curated cocktails and a wine list featuring our state’s best. There’s a lot to love at Merrymaker, which you can find on Level 16 of Hotel Indigo.

Nineteen Ten

Nineteen Ten is Adelaide’s only Rooftop Pool Bar. The Jazz and burlesque club hosts an array of events; be entertained by live music, vocals, breath-taking movement fire twirling and more. Step in the elevator which takes you up, and when you enter you’re taken into another word with little round tables scattered throughout.

Proof
Not quite a rooftop bar, but almost. Up the stairs of this small bar off Waymouth St you’ll find a sky open area where you can gaze down at passers-by or up at the stars while enjoying one of Adelaide’s best toasties and a solid cocktail (or 5, we’re not judging). You’ll find Proof down Antser Street.

Sol Bar and Restaurant

Named after the Latin term for sun, Sol is perched atop the SkyCity expansion and Eos by SkyCity. In line with its name, Sol is offering some of the best views of Adelaide with views of the sun rising in the Adelaide Hills and setting on the coast. You also have unrivalled views of the River Torrens, Adelaide Oval and South Australian coastline. Enjoy dinner, a casual drink or even bottomless brunch alongside these spectacular views.

Sora is a venue that’s said to be setting a new standard in premium rooftop dining and entertainment. Derived from the Japanese word for “sky,” Sora is blending approachable food by a renowned chef with entertainment and breathtaking panoramic views. Breaking away from conventional definitions of a restaurant or a bar, they wanted to offer a unique multi-level experience where patrons can seamlessly transition between dining and entertainment without leaving the venue.

The Gallery

An old fave. Well really, it’s not that old, but who can work out time scales when there’s something new opening every second day? What we know is The Gallery delivers, time and time again. Aptly named after the beautiful art gallery displayed on levels one and two, the real piece de resistance is on level three. The theme: garden meets the inner city. Their lush green wall contrasts the pretty night lights and sleek urban architecture. Top this all off with an exceptional menu that caters for all. It’s perfect for after-work drinks and nibbles or a casual but classy date night.

The Mayfair Hotel’s Hennessy Lounge

The Hennessy Lounge atop the incredible Mayfair Hotel has been renovated to cater for the weather and now has an all-weather roof and heaters. Now we know what you’re thinking but the lounge will not be sponsored by the infamous Cognac; the name is actually that of the heritage building’s original architect. The panoramic views of Rundle Mall will contrast with the sight of the Adelaide Hills, all while you’re sipping a glass of champagne.

The Strathmore Hotel

The Strathmore has undergone some pretty major refurbishments in recent years. An upgrade to the former space has seen the hotel welcome a brand new bar, indoor and outdoor dining areas, function spaces and menus. The Verandah Bar is an open-air bar and is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail while soaking up all the atmosphere of North Terrace. As far as food goes, Verandah Dining’s retractable roof means you can enjoy the best of Adelaide’s weather all year round.

The Unley
One of our favourite pubs that is 100% doing it right. They opened a rooftop bar in the middle of winter some time ago, and yet, still nailed it. We love how light and bright this venue has become, making you feel like it’s spring all year round. They’ve also got an excellent menu that combines lux-pub grub with fancy bites. We love it for lazy weekend drinks but beware: the fabulous vibe means an arvo session here could easily be the start of a large night.
